Description

A rare and intensely concentrated Riesling from the celebrated Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr vineyard, the 2011 Trockenbeerenauslese from Max Ferd. Richter is a wine of remarkable precision and longevity. Produced in very small quantities from individually selected, late-harvested grapes, it combines luscious sweetness with the vibrant acidity characteristic of the Mosel.

Tasting Notes
Golden in colour, this fine dessert wine opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe peach, apricot and honey, underpinned by subtle mineral nuances. On the palate, it is rich and sweet yet lifted by lively acidity, with concentrated stone-fruit flavours, citrus zest and delicate spice. The finish is exceptionally long and intense, leaving a refined impression of fruit, sweetness and minerality. Thanks to its concentration and excellent balance, this 2011 Trockenbeerenauslese has outstanding ageing potential. Properly stored, it can develop gracefully for many decades, gaining further complexity while retaining its freshness.

Production
The wine comes from the steep, highly regarded slopes of Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr in the Mosel, where the vineyard’s challenging aspect and mineral-rich soils help produce naturally concentrated Riesling. The grapes were harvested late and selected meticulously by hand, with only the ripest fruit chosen for this small-production Trockenbeerenauslese. It was bottled in the classic 375 ml format, ideal for preserving and serving a concentrated sweet wine.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. Its richness and bright acidity make it a superb partner for fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, pâtisserie and blue or mature cheeses; it can also be enjoyed on its own as an elegant aperitif or concluding glass. Decanting is generally not necessary, although a short period in the glass will allow its aromas to unfold.

Producer
Max Ferd. Richter is a respected Mosel estate associated with expressive Rieslings from some of the region’s most distinguished vineyard sites. The winery’s Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr wines reflect the Mosel’s tradition of combining delicate fruit, pronounced minerality and refreshing acidity. This 2011 Trockenbeerenauslese represents the estate’s rare, small-lot style at its most concentrated and luxurious.
