Description

Max Ferd. Richter’s 2007 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is a rare, intensely sweet Mosel wine made from individually selected, botrytised Riesling grapes. Presented in a 375 ml half bottle, it combines remarkable concentration with the vibrant acidity that gives great German noble-sweet wines their balance and longevity. The Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr is one of the Mosel’s most celebrated vineyard sites, renowned for producing elegant, long-lived Rieslings.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a brilliant golden colour, developing deeper amber tones with age. Its expressive bouquet reveals ripe stone fruit, candied citrus, honey, dried apricot and subtle spice, with the botrytis adding layers of saffron and savoury complexity. On the palate, it is rich, concentrated and lusciously sweet, yet remarkably fresh thanks to lively Mosel acidity. Flavours of honeyed peach, apricot and preserved citrus lead to a long, balanced finish. Although already mature and rewarding to drink, this Riesling has the structure to evolve gracefully for many more years when stored in a cool, dark cellar.

Production
The grapes come from the steep, sun-exposed Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr vineyard, whose slate soils and favourable Mosel microclimate help Riesling achieve both ripeness and aromatic precision. Trockenbeerenauslese grapes are harvested late and selectively by hand, choosing shrivelled berries affected by noble rot, which naturally concentrates their sugars, flavours and acidity. The wine is produced with careful, gentle vinification to preserve the fruit, freshness and site expression characteristic of premium Mosel Riesling.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This rich dessert wine is a natural partner for fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, apple tart, honeyed pastries and blue or washed-rind cheeses; it can also be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative finale. Decanting is generally unnecessary, though opening the bottle shortly before serving can allow its complex aromas to unfold. A small tulip-shaped white-wine glass is ideal.

Producer
Max Ferd. Richter is a historic family estate based in Mülheim in the Mosel, with a winemaking tradition dating back to the 17th century. The estate is particularly associated with high-quality Rieslings from prestigious vineyards along the Middle Mosel, including Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr. Its wines are valued for combining the region’s characteristic slate-driven elegance and precision with impressive depth and ageing potential.
