Description
Max Ferd. Richter’s 2003 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is a rare, highly concentrated sweet wine from one of the Mosel’s most distinguished vineyard sites. Made from individually hand-selected Riesling grapes during an exceptionally warm, sunny vintage, it combines opulent fruit and honeyed richness with the precise acidity characteristic of great Mosel wines. A mature and memorable expression of the Trockenbeerenauslese style, it is equally suited to special occasions, thoughtful gifting or long-term cellaring.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep golden colour, reflecting both its rich concentration and two decades of bottle maturity. Its aromatic profile is intensely layered, with ripe peach and apricot complemented by honeyed notes and a subtle mineral character derived from the Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr site.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly sweet, yet remarkably balanced by vibrant acidity. The concentrated fruit, honeyed nuances and elegant mineral freshness create a long, refined finish. Already mature and highly expressive, this 2003 Trockenbeerenauslese should continue to develop gracefully in a well-kept cellar for many years, although it is ready to enjoy now.
Production
The grapes come from the steep Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr vineyards in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region, where the challenging slopes and distinctive mineral-rich terroir are ideally suited to producing noble sweet Riesling. The exceptionally warm and sunny 2003 vintage encouraged intense ripeness and high natural sugar levels. For Trockenbeerenauslese, only individually selected, highly concentrated grapes are used, resulting in a wine of remarkable richness and aromatic depth.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 8–10°C. Its sweetness and lively acidity make it a beautiful partner for crème brûlée, tiramisu, fruit-based desserts and mature blue cheeses; it can also be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif or after-dinner wine. Decanting is generally not necessary, but carefully pouring the bottle into a suitable carafe can help remove any sediment and allow the mature aromas to open before serving.
