Mas d'en Gil, Clos Fonta Priorat, 2018

Mas d’en Gil Clos Fontà 2018 is a deeply expressive Priorat red that captures the region’s identity with striking precision. Made from very old Grenache and Carignan vines rooted in the iconic llicorella slate, it combines concentration, mineral tension and elegance in a style that reflects one of Priorat’s most authentic and historic terroirs.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, intense color that hints at its richness and power. The nose is layered and complex, with dark berries, black cherries, warm spice and a clear mineral edge that speaks of its slate-driven origin. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with impressive depth, firm yet ripe tannins and a long, persistent finish where fruit and minerality come together beautifully. Thanks to its structure and careful aging, Clos Fontà 2018 has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve gracefully over the coming years.

Production
Clos Fontà is crafted from very old Grenache and Carignan vines, some dating back to the 1930s, which naturally limit yields and deliver remarkable intensity. The vineyards are planted on Priorat’s famous llicorella shale soils, a terroir known for producing wines with distinctive mineral character, structure and energy. The wine is aged in a combination of large and small oak barrels, followed by several years of bottle aging to bring balance, refinement and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for game, truffle dishes and rich meat preparations, where its power and depth can shine alongside bold flavors. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended to let the wine fully open and reveal its aromatic complexity and silky structure.
