Description
Mas del Périé’s *You Fuck My Wine?!* 2024 is a spirited, organic red from Fabien Jouves, made from a distinctive blend of Malbec, Gibert, Valdiguié and Jurançon Noir. Its provocative name reflects Jouves’ frustration with the removal of Jurançon Noir from the permitted Cahors grape varieties in the 1990s, as well as a playful nod to Robert De Niro’s *Raging Bull*. Rather than abandon the old local variety, he chose to keep working with it and release the wine outside the Cahors appellation.
Tasting Notes
A youthful, deeply coloured red with an energetic, fruit-driven profile. The blend is expected to show ripe dark berries and juicy red fruit, complemented by floral notes, gentle spice and the fresh, slightly rustic character associated with traditional southwestern French varieties. On the palate, it is vibrant and expressive, with lively acidity, moderate structure and supple tannins that make the wine approachable in its youth.
The 2024 vintage is best appreciated for its freshness and immediacy, though a short period of cellaring may allow the fruit and savoury nuances to knit together. It is an engaging choice for drinkers who enjoy characterful, natural-leaning reds with a sense of place and personality.
Production
The wine comes from Mas del Périé in Trespoux-Rassiels, in the Cahors area of southwest France, where Malbec has long been the defining grape. This cuvée combines Malbec with the heritage varieties Gibert, Valdiguié and Jurançon Noir, the latter being the grape at the heart of the wine’s story. Produced organically, it deliberately avoids using the Cahors AOC designation in order to preserve this unconventional blend and highlight the freedom to work with lesser-known local varieties.
Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, to emphasise the wine’s freshness and vibrant fruit. It pairs well with grilled sausages, charcuterie, roast poultry, burgers, lentil dishes and rustic southwestern French cooking, while its lively profile also suits pizza and hard cheeses. Decanting is not essential for this young vintage, but a brief 20–30 minute aeration can help open the aromas and soften the youthful structure.
Producer
Mas del Périé is the estate of Fabien Jouves, based in Le Bourg, Trespoux-Rassiels, in the Cahors region. Jouves is known for combining a strong respect for the area’s traditional grape varieties with an independent, contemporary approach to winemaking. His decision to retain Jurançon Noir despite its exclusion from the Cahors appellation reflects the estate’s commitment to regional heritage—and gives this wine its distinctive identity, uncompromising style and memorable name.
