Description

Markus Molitor’s 2003 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese Goldkapsel is a rare, intensely concentrated sweet wine from one of the Mosel’s most distinguished vineyard sites. Produced only under exceptional conditions, Trockenbeerenauslese represents one of Germany’s highest Prädikat classifications, while the Goldkapsel designation signals an especially selective and luxurious bottling. Presented in a 375 ml format, it is ideally suited to special occasions, cellaring or gifting.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep golden hue, reflecting its age and remarkable concentration. Its aromatic profile is rich and expressive, with layers of ripe peach, apricot, honey and candied fruit, complemented by the characteristic mineral nuances associated with the Mosel. On the palate, it is luscious and full-bodied, balancing generous sweetness with vibrant Riesling acidity. Concentrated stone-fruit flavours lead into a long, persistent finish marked by honeyed richness and a fine mineral note. With its combination of sweetness, acidity and structure, this 2003 Trockenbeerenauslese has excellent ageing potential and can continue to develop for many years when properly stored.

Production
The grapes come from the steep Zeltinger Sonnenuhr vineyard, where slate-rich Mosel soils and excellent exposure help Riesling achieve both ripeness and freshness. Trockenbeerenauslese is made from individually selected, naturally shrivelled grapes, often affected by noble rot, which concentrates their sugars, aromas and acidity. The small-format bottle further underlines the wine’s character as a concentrated, carefully selected dessert Riesling.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its richness and lively acidity make it a natural partner for crème brûlée, tiramisu, fruit tarts, ripe peaches and other fresh or poached fruit; it can also be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif or digestif. Decanting is generally unnecessary, although carefully pouring the wine into a clean decanter may help remove any sediment from extended bottle ageing.

Producer
Markus Molitor is one of the leading names on the Mosel, with a strong focus on Riesling from steep, slate-dominated vineyards. The estate is particularly respected for producing wines across the full spectrum of German Prädikat classifications, from dry styles to highly concentrated noble-sweet bottlings. Its site-specific approach and meticulous grape selection have made Markus Molitor wines especially sought after by collectors and lovers of fine Mosel Riesling.
