Description

Maria & Sepp Muster’s Rosé vom Opok is a characterful Styrian rosé made from Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and the regionally distinctive Blauer Wildbacher. Rather than aiming for simple, confectionary fruit, it offers a more considered expression of the Opok soils and the grapes grown there.

Production
The grapes are grown on Opok, the marl-rich soils characteristic of parts of Styria. The supplied note for the 2020 vintage describes hand harvesting, a four-hour pressing period, spontaneous fermentation and 20 months of maturation in large wooden casks; it does not confirm whether the 2021 was made in exactly the same way.

Food & Serving
Its more characterful style should suit grilled vegetables, savoury tarts, charcuterie or roast poultry. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, to let its aromas show; decanting is not generally necessary for a rosé.
