Marc Kreydenweiss Pinot Blanc Kritt 2022 brings together Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc, traditionally planted and vinified side by side in Alsace. From a biodynamically farmed, south-facing parcel, it offers a more site-driven expression than its understated label suggests, with a long, mineral finish.

Tasting Notes
Now showing some bottle age, the wine has moved beyond its youthful exuberance while retaining freshness and energy. Its delicate aromas include yellow-fleshed fruit, dried herbs and toasted coriander seed, with subtle smoky and earthy notes.

Production
Kritt is a stony, south-facing vineyard parcel with iron-rich clay and a high proportion of quartz. Its 20–40-year-old vines are biodynamically farmed in a 50:50 mixed planting of Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois; the grapes are harvested selectively by hand and vinified together. Whole bunches are pressed slowly, followed by spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in a large wooden cask. The wine then matures for a year on fine lees, without fining or filtration and with only a small addition of sulphur before bottling.

Food & Serving
Its juicy, composed palate and mineral finish suit roast poultry, creamy vegetable dishes, freshwater fish or a selection of mild, semi-firm cheeses. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. A short spell in a carafe can help the wine open up, though decanting is not essential.
