Description
Lungarotti Aurente Chardonnay di Torgiano 2024 is a rich, still white wine that combines the elegance of Chardonnay with the distinctive character of Grechetto. Produced in limited quantities, it reflects Lungarotti’s long-standing commitment to showcasing the quality and identity of Umbria’s Torgiano terroir. Its name, “Aurente”, refers to the wine’s luminous golden colour.
Tasting Notes
Bright golden in appearance, Aurente opens with expressive aromas of tropical fruit, ripe banana and fresh sage, complemented by subtle, well-integrated notes of French oak. The palate is full-bodied and finely structured, balancing a rounded, refined texture with lively acidity. Its persistent finish is distinctly fruity, with a gentle savoury nuance that adds depth.
The combination of fruit, freshness and oak-derived complexity makes this a polished white wine with excellent presence at the table. It can be enjoyed in its youth for its vibrant character, while careful cellaring over the next few years should allow its texture and secondary nuances to develop further.
Production
The grapes are sourced from vineyards on the slopes of Brufa in the Torgiano area, where sandy soils over deep limestone contribute freshness and definition. Limited yields help concentrate the fruit, while the grapes are harvested by hand before gentle pressing and a short cryomaceration. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels at controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve the wine’s natural acidity, after which it matures on fine lees with bâtonnage, followed by additional time in stainless steel tanks and a careful final resting period.
Food & Serving
Serve Aurente lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Its body, acidity and subtle oak character make it a versatile partner for grilled or roasted fish, shellfish, creamy pasta, risotto, poultry and lightly spiced dishes. It also pairs well with fresh or gently matured cheeses. Decanting is generally not necessary, although a brief period in a carafe can help open the wine when served young.
Producer
Founded by Giorgio Lungarotti in 1962, Lungarotti has played a significant role in establishing Umbria—and particularly Torgiano—as a respected Italian wine region. The estate is known for its focus on expressing local terroir while combining traditional regional varieties with carefully selected international grapes. Aurente brings together the elegance of Chardonnay and the authentic Umbrian character of Grechetto in a limited release of approximately 15,000 bottles.
