Description
Luigi Einaudi Barolo Monvigliero 2022 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from Verduno, one of Barolo’s less widely recognised but highly characterful communes. First introduced with the 2018 vintage, this wine highlights the elegance, aromatic lift and distinctive typicity that Monvigliero’s celebrated hillside can bring to Barolo DOCG.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright garnet colour with the brick-red reflections typical of mature Nebbiolo. Its nose is expressive and layered, suggesting red berries, rose petals, violets, spices and subtle earthy nuances.
On the palate, it combines refined structure with vibrant acidity and finely grained tannins. Red fruit, floral tones and savoury complexity unfold through a long, persistent finish. With its balance and concentration, the 2022 vintage should develop beautifully in bottle over the coming years, while offering appealing freshness in its youth.
Production
The grapes come from the Monvigliero cru in Verduno, a northern Barolo commune known for producing wines with elegance, perfume and distinctive aromatic definition. The site’s conditions help give Nebbiolo both structure and finesse. Specific details regarding harvesting, maceration and maturation have not been provided; as a Barolo DOCG, the wine is produced according to the denomination’s strict requirements, including extended ageing before release.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 18°C after allowing the wine to breathe. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended when enjoying the bottle young, while older vintages may benefit from gentle decanting to separate any sediment. Its refined tannins and savoury character make it an excellent match for braised beef, game, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto, tajarin with ragù and mature hard cheeses.
Producer
Founded by Luigi Einaudi, Italy’s first democratically elected President, the estate has deep roots in the Langhe and has played an important role in the development and recognition of Piedmontese wine. Today, the winery is known for expressing the character of its vineyards through elegant, terroir-focused Barolo and other classic wines from the region.
