Louis Roederer Cristal 2008 is a landmark Champagne from one of the region’s most celebrated vintages, presented here in a premium double-magnum gift box. Created originally for Tsar Alexander II in 1876, Cristal remains Louis Roederer’s flagship cuvée, prized for its precision, intensity and remarkable aging ability.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a radiant golden colour with a fine, persistent bead. Its bouquet is exceptionally focused, combining crushed stone, chalk, citrus peel, lime, white flowers, graphite and a subtle note of fresh mint. On the palate, the 2008 vintage is poised and chiselled, with brilliant acidity, concentrated fruit and a deep mineral core. Antonio Galloni described it as “fabulous”, highlighting its blinding intensity and cool-vintage character. Already compelling, it has the structure and balance to develop gracefully for many years in a well-kept cellar.

Production
Cristal is made from a carefully selected blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from Louis Roederer’s premier vineyards in Champagne. The cool, late-ripening conditions of 2008 produced grapes with exceptional freshness, concentration and natural acidity. Fruit is harvested by hand and vinified with meticulous attention to the character of each parcel, allowing the final blend to express both the vintage and Cristal’s signature clarity. Extended lees ageing contributes further complexity, texture and finesse.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 10–12°C in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass to reveal the wine’s layered aromas and mineral detail. Decanting is not essential, but a careful transfer to a Champagne decanter shortly before serving can help a mature bottle open beautifully; for such a large format, gentle decanting may also be useful. Pair with refined dishes such as oysters, lobster, turbot, scallops, caviar, roast poultry or lightly truffled preparations. Its structure also makes it an excellent match for delicate dishes with creamy sauces.

Founded in Reims in 1776, Louis Roederer is one of Champagne’s great independent houses and remains family-owned. The estate is distinguished by its substantial vineyard holdings, including many Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites, giving the house unusual control over grape quality and vineyard expression. Cristal was first created for the Russian imperial court and has since become one of Champagne’s most prestigious cuvées, recognised for its elegance, longevity and exceptionally precise house style.
