Presented in a giftbox, Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé 2005 is a late-release Champagne that pairs the house’s signature finesse with the depth of mature Pinot Noir. Cristal was created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II, and this rosé expression brings that celebrated prestige-cuvée style to a richly layered, age-worthy wine.
Tasting Notes
Its salmon-pink hue is touched with golden tones. The expressive nose opens with concentrated red berries, gaining detail as it develops in the glass. On the palate, ripe cherry and plum meet subtle almond notes, with generous texture balanced by the finesse associated with Cristal.
The finish is soft, persistent and poised, hinting at further development. As a late release from the 2005 vintage, it is ready to enjoy now, while careful cellaring may allow its aromas and mature complexity to evolve further.
Production
The blend is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. Louis Roederer uses skin maceration, keeping Pinot Noir skins in contact with the must for several hours to build the rosé’s colour and character. The cuvée includes fruit from some of the estate’s oldest Pinot Noir vines, noted for producing intensely aromatic, ripe grapes. Further details on harvesting and the specific vineyard sites for this bottle have not been provided.
Food & Serving
Serve at around 10–12°C to let the wine’s mature aromas show without dulling its freshness. It pairs well with roasted or grilled salmon, langoustine, lobster and other delicate seafood, as well as roast poultry or dishes featuring mushrooms. Decanting is not essential; if the Champagne seems reserved, allow it a little time in a large glass rather than exposing it to prolonged aeration.
Producer
Founded in 1776, Louis Roederer is one of Champagne’s historic independent houses. Its prestige cuvée, Cristal, was first created for Tsar Alexander II in 1876 and has since become one of the region’s most recognised Champagnes. The house is known for its emphasis on vineyard character and for producing wines that combine precision, depth and ageing potential.
