Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé 2002 is a celebrated vintage Champagne, presented in a giftbox and made from fruit sourced from some of Champagne’s finest Grand Cru vineyards. Combining Pinot Noir depth with Chardonnay freshness, it is a particularly refined expression of the Cristal style; the original Cristal cuvée was created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II.
Tasting Notes
A delicate pink hue and fine, persistent bubbles lead into aromas of strawberry and raspberry, layered with floral notes, subtle spice and hints of toast. On the palate, ripe red-fruit richness meets lively freshness and chalky mineral character, with a creamy texture and a long, silky finish that brings brioche and wild berries to mind.
The 2002 has the balance and concentration to reward further cellaring, while already offering considerable complexity. Stored carefully, it can continue to evolve over many years.
Production
The blend is 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, from Grand Cru vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs, where chalk-rich soils contribute freshness and minerality. A portion of the Pinot Noir is vinified as red wine to give the Champagne its colour and additional depth. After fermentation, the wine spends six years on its lees in Roederer’s cellars, followed by eight months of bottle ageing after disgorgement. Specific harvesting methods are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve at around 10–12°C to bring out both its freshness and its developed aromas. It pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, fine seafood, or simply prepared salmon; for a richer match, try roast poultry or duck. Decanting is generally unnecessary—pour carefully and allow the Champagne a few minutes in the glass to open.
Producer
Founded in 1776, Louis Roederer is one of Champagne’s historic houses and remains family-owned. Its reputation is closely associated with Cristal, first created for Tsar Alexander II in 1876. The house is known for its close attention to vineyard sourcing and for producing elegant, long-lived Champagnes.
