Why shop with us?
Louis Roederer Brut Nature 2012 is a bone-dry vintage Champagne presented in a deluxe giftbox, shaped by the character of chalk-rich vineyards around Cumières, Hautvillers and Vertus. Developed in collaboration with designer Philippe Starck, the cuvée grew from Roederer’s 2003 exploration of these resilient sites and expresses a philosophy of naturalness, simplicity and elegance.
Tasting Notes
Bright gold in the glass, it carries a fine, persistent mousse. The nose combines wild flowers, citrus and ripe peach with delicate toasted notes. On the palate, freshness and breadth meet crisp minerality and hints of spice, finishing long with a subtle interplay of fruit and savoury warmth.
The 2012 vintage is already showing its complexity, and careful cellaring may allow further development. Its zero-dosage style keeps the finish particularly dry and makes the wine’s fruit and mineral character stand out.
Production
The fruit comes from chalky vineyard parcels in Cumières, Hautvillers and Vertus, selected for their ability to retain balance through challenging weather. The 2012 harvest produced naturally balanced grapes with aromatic intensity, ripe fruit and freshness. The blend is one-third Chardonnay and two-thirds Pinot Noir and Meunier. Around 25% of the wine is fermented in oak and the remainder in stainless steel; malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve freshness. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the Champagne ages for five years before release, receives no dosage, then rests for a further six months after disgorgement.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C, with oysters, scallops, delicate fish or lightly seasoned poultry; its dry, mineral profile also suits aged hard cheeses. Pour young bottles straight from the bottle, while a few minutes in the glass can help reveal the wine’s aromatic detail. Decanting is generally unnecessary.
Producer
Founded in 1776, Louis Roederer is one of Champagne’s historic, family-owned houses, known for its close attention to vineyard sites and its emphasis on estate-grown fruit. Brut Nature emerged from a collaboration between Frédéric Rouzaud’s team and Philippe Starck, bringing a distinctive, terroir-focused cuvée to the house’s range. Its considered production and zero-dosage approach make it a notable expression of both the 2012 vintage and Roederer’s pursuit of precision.
