Description

Louis Lequin & Fils’ 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Morgeot is a distinctive Pinot Noir from a celebrated Burgundy appellation better known for its white wines. Made from a rare red-wine parcel, it combines the character of Morgeot with careful élevage in French oak, continuing a family winemaking tradition dating back to 1604.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows garnet-red hues, with aromas of red fruit complemented by subtle spice. On the palate, Pinot Noir’s fruit is framed by a balanced structure and a velvety texture, with oak adding complexity without obscuring the grape’s character. The finish is long and composed. Its structure and time in oak suggest potential to develop further in bottle, though a specific drinking window is not provided.

Production
The grapes come from Premier Cru Morgeot in Chassagne-Montrachet, an area prized for its soils. Vines are trained using Royat cordon pruning, and the fruit is hand-harvested. Most grapes are destemmed, with some whole-cluster fermentation possible; vinification includes a cold maceration followed by fermentation with native yeasts over a process lasting around a month. The wine then matures for 10 to 16 months in French oak barrels, with measured use of new oak.

Food & Serving
Try it with roast chicken, duck, pork, or mushroom dishes, whose savoury flavours complement Pinot Noir’s red-fruit and spice notes. Serve slightly cool, around 15–17°C. A short decant can help the wine open up, particularly if drinking it young.

Producer
The Lequin family has carried on its Burgundian winemaking tradition since 1604, farming a seven-hectare estate. Louis Lequin’s Premier Cru Morgeot is a notable red wine from Chassagne-Montrachet, an appellation internationally renowned for its whites.
