Description
Les Frères Mignon Champagne Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs L'Aventure Extra Brut is a sleek, Chardonnay-driven Champagne crafted from premier cru vineyards in the heart of the region. This non-vintage cuvée is all about purity, tension and precision, showcasing the mineral backbone and citrus brightness that define top-tier Blanc de Blancs. With its Extra Brut dosage, it offers a particularly dry, incisive style that highlights the character of both the grape and its chalk-rich terroir.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, L’Aventure pours a pale, luminous straw-yellow with fine, persistent bubbles that form a delicate, creamy mousse. The nose is elegant and focused, opening with notes of lemon zest, green apple and white flowers, followed by hints of chalk, fresh brioche and a touch of almond.
On the palate, this is a crisp, linear Champagne with a vibrant acidity that keeps everything lifted and mouthwatering. Flavours of citrus (grapefruit, lemon), crunchy pear and green apple are layered with subtle pastry notes, wet stone and a faint saline edge. The Extra Brut style keeps the wine dry and racy, giving it a clean, long, mineral finish. Thanks to its solid structure and acidity, this cuvée has the potential to develop further complexity over the next 3–5 years, gaining more brioche, hazelnut and honeyed nuances while retaining its freshness.
Production
Sourced exclusively from Chardonnay grown in premier cru villages, Les Frères Mignon L’Aventure Blanc de Blancs reflects the classic chalk and limestone soils that make Champagne so distinctive. The cool climate and well-drained slopes help the grapes ripen slowly, preserving acidity and aromatic finesse. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of only the healthiest bunches. In the cellar, the base wines are gently pressed, fermented in temperature-controlled vats (with some possible partial ageing on lees to build texture), and then blended across different parcels and reserve wines to achieve a consistent house style. After the secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine rests on its lees for an extended period, enhancing complexity and creaminess, before disgorgement with a low Extra Brut dosage to keep the profile taut and precise.
Food & Serving
This Premier Cru Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs is an ideal partner for refined, delicate dishes where its crisp line of acidity and minerality can shine. Think freshly shucked oysters, caviar, sashimi, scallop crudo, or simple grilled fish with lemon and herbs. It also works beautifully with goat cheese, tempura vegetables, sushi, and light poultry dishes in citrus or cream-based sauces. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) for maximum freshness. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or a quick splash into a narrow decanter can help the aromas open up, particularly if you’re serving it closer to cellar temperature.
Producer
Les Frères Mignon is a grower-producer rooted in Champagne’s tradition of family-run estates, focusing on expressing the nuances of their own vineyards rather than large-scale blends. Working mainly with Chardonnay from premier cru sites, the brothers behind the label champion thoughtful viticulture and precise, terroir-driven winemaking. Their approach emphasizes careful hand work in the vines, low yields and meticulous attention in the cellar, resulting in Champagnes that are both expressive and refined. Although comparatively small in scale, Les Frères Mignon has gained attention among enthusiasts who value artisan Champagne for its character, authenticity and strong sense of place.
