Description

Presented in a Magnum gift box, Krug 2003 is a distinctive vintage Champagne shaped by an unusually hot, challenging year in the region. Its blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier combines generous richness with freshness, while the larger format offers excellent potential for further development.

Tasting Notes
Deep golden in colour, with fine, persistent bubbles. The layered nose brings together dried fruit, citrus, honey, brioche and spice. Full-bodied and intense, the palate balances ripe fruit with freshness and subtle minerality, leading to a long, complex finish. It is enjoyable now, but the Magnum format and the wine’s structure give it the potential to evolve further with careful cellaring.

Production
Krug Vintage celebrates the character of a single harvest, blending the year’s most expressive wines from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier. For 2003, the proportions are 46% Pinot Noir, 29% Chardonnay and 25% Meunier. The wine spent more than ten years maturing in Krug’s cellars before release; further details about vineyard sites, harvesting methods and vinification are not specified.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 10–12°C, with roasted poultry, lobster, scallops or aged hard cheeses. Its richness also suits dishes with browned butter, mushrooms or subtle spice. Pour directly from the bottle; a short rest in the glass can help reveal its aromas, while extended decanting is generally unnecessary for mature Champagne.

Producer
Founded in Reims in 1843 by Joseph Krug, Champagne Krug is known for its individual approach to Champagne-making and for crafting wines that express depth, complexity and a strong sense of character. Its vintage Champagnes are made to reflect the particular qualities of a single year, with extended ageing in the cellars before release.
