From Westhofen’s VDP.GROSSE LAGE® Aulerde, this 2022 Großes Gewächs showcases Riesling from vines more than 60 years old, presented here in a generous magnum. The site’s distinctive soils and the estate’s traditional large-cask élevage give the wine a clear sense of place and added depth.

Tasting Notes
The expressive bouquet is filled with ripe yellow fruit, including apricot and mirabelle, alongside a hint of exotic fruit, candied lemon and delicate sweet spice. On the palate, expect a character shaped by the site’s mineral-rich soils and the structure imparted by large-cask maturation. Production
Aulerde’s exposed vineyards occupy former slopes of the ancient Rhine valley. The more than 60-year-old Riesling vines root into loess and loam soils underlain by green clay, a geological combination that contributes mineral character. As with nearly all of the estate’s wines, this Riesling is matured in traditional large wooden casks; harvesting and further vinification details are not specified.
