A rare mature Riesling from one of the Mosel’s most celebrated vineyards, the Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Beerenauslese Goldkapsel 1976 is a remarkable example of Germany’s noble-sweet wine tradition. Produced from exceptionally ripe, carefully selected grapes and presented in a 0.35-litre bottle, this historic vintage combines concentrated fruit, sweetness and remarkable longevity.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep golden colour, reflecting its age and concentration. Its complex bouquet reveals layers of ripe stone fruit, honey and delicate spice, with the mature nuances expected from a well-preserved Riesling Beerenauslese. On the palate, it is richly sweet and concentrated, balanced by Riesling’s characteristic freshness. Notes of mature fruit and honey carry through to a long, harmonious finish. From the exceptional 1976 vintage, it is ready to enjoy now, while further development depends on storage conditions and bottle provenance.

Production
The grapes come from Wehlener Sonnenuhr, a renowned Mosel vineyard known for its steep, sun-exposed slate slopes and excellent ability to produce intensely flavoured, long-lived Rieslings. As a Beerenauslese, the wine was made from individually selected, exceptionally ripe grapes with naturally concentrated sugars and flavours. The Goldkapsel designation indicates an especially selective and prized bottling within the producer’s range.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, in small Riesling or dessert-wine glasses. Its sweetness and acidity make it a superb partner for foie gras, blue cheese, fruit-based desserts and lightly spiced Asian cuisine. Decanting is generally not essential for a mature Beerenauslese, but carefully pouring it off any sediment shortly before serving may help present the wine at its best.
