Joh. Jos. Prüm’s 1999 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Lange Goldkapsel is a highly sought-after sweet Riesling from one of the Mosel’s most celebrated vineyard sites. Made from carefully selected, late-harvested grapes and presented in the estate’s distinctive long gold capsule style, it combines ripe fruit, vibrant acidity and remarkable ageing potential. Tasting Notes
The wine displays a radiant golden colour, reflecting both its natural concentration and two decades of bottle development. Its expressive nose opens with ripe apple and pear, followed by citrus zest, honey and subtle hints of candied fruit. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, yet lifted by the bright, precise acidity typical of great Mosel Riesling. Layers of orchard fruit, citrus and honey unfold with excellent balance, leading to a long, harmonious finish. The 1999 vintage has considerable maturity, while its acidity and concentration allow it to develop further in a well-stored bottle.

Production
The grapes come from the steep, slate-rich Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard, whose south-facing terraces benefit from excellent sun exposure and the heat-retaining qualities of the Mosel’s grey slate soils. For an Auslese of this style, only particularly ripe and healthy grape clusters are selected by hand, often with some botrytis influence contributing additional concentration and complexity. The wine is produced from Riesling and retains a balance of natural sweetness and Mosel freshness, allowing it to mature gracefully over many years.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 9–11°C. Its sweetness and acidity make it a wonderful partner for delicately spiced Asian cuisine, foie gras, roasted or grilled fish, poultry with fruit-based sauces and mature or blue cheeses. It can also be enjoyed with fruit desserts, although its complexity makes it equally rewarding on its own. Decanting is not essential, but a gentle decant can help a mature bottle open in the glass; sediment should be handled carefully if present.
