Description
Joh. Jos. Prüm’s 2006 Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Beerenauslese Goldkapsel is a rare, richly concentrated sweet wine from one of the Mosel’s most respected estates. Made from individually selected, overripe Riesling grapes, this Goldkapsel bottling combines luxurious sweetness with the vibrant acidity that gives great Mosel wines their remarkable balance and longevity. A distinguished vintage for collectors and lovers of mature German Riesling.
Tasting Notes
The wine presents a luminous golden hue, hinting at its age and concentration. Its expressive nose brings together ripe stone fruit, honey, candied citrus and delicate spice, with further layers emerging as it opens in the glass.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and generously sweet, with flavours of peach, apricot and honey supported by refreshing Mosel acidity. The finish is long, graceful and persistent, leaving a subtle impression of spice and ripe fruit. With its balance of sweetness and acidity, this Beerenauslese has excellent ageing potential and can continue to develop beautifully for many years when properly stored.
Production
The grapes come from the Bernkasteler Badstube, a renowned Mosel vineyard site whose steep slopes and slate-rich soils help create wines with both mineral character and natural freshness. Beerenauslese is produced from exceptionally ripe, carefully selected Riesling grapes, often with the influence of noble rot, which concentrates sugars and flavours while preserving acidity. The small Goldkapsel selection represents an especially prized bottling, distinguished by its depth, rarity and concentration.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This Beerenauslese is an elegant partner for fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, apple or pear tart, and blue cheese; it can also be enjoyed on its own as a luxurious aperitif or after-dinner wine. Decanting is not essential, but carefully pouring the wine into a small decanter can help it open and separate any mature sediment in the bottle.
Producer
Joh. Jos. Prüm is one of the landmark producers of the Mosel, renowned for finely balanced Rieslings from some of the region’s most celebrated vineyards. Based in Wehlen, the family estate has built an international reputation for wines that unite precise fruit, slate-driven minerality and exceptional ageing capacity. Its Beerenauslese and Goldkapsel wines are particularly sought after for their rarity, concentration and ability to mature gracefully over decades.
