Description
Inama Vin Soave Classico Vigneti Foscarino 2023 is a refined, old‑world expression of Soave that looks deliberately to the past for its inspiration. Crafted from hillside Garganega vineyards on the historic Monte Foscarino, it showcases a more textural, structured style than many modern, easy‑drinking Soaves. Made in old barrels with a minimalist touch in the cellar, this wine echoes the character Soave might have had centuries ago, when it was already prized in Roman times.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Vigneti Foscarino 2023 typically shows a luminous straw‑yellow color with subtle golden highlights, signaling both freshness and a hint of richness. The nose is layered and complex: ripe stone fruits like peach and apricot, yellow plum, and citrus zest weave together with notes of chamomile, almond blossom, and a gentle smokiness or flintiness that reflects its volcanic origins. With some air, you may also find honeyed nuances, wild herbs, and a touch of spice from its time in old wood.
On the palate, this Soave Classico is medium‑bodied yet remarkably textural, with a creamy mid‑palate balanced by vibrant, saline acidity. Flavors of ripe pear, white peach, lemon curd, and tangerine are wrapped in a savory, mineral core, finishing long with notes of almond, white flowers, and a faint bitter‑citrus twist that is very typical of high‑quality Garganega. While delicious in its youth for its energy and purity, the structure and concentration suggest an aging potential of 5–8 years from the vintage, during which it will develop more honeyed, nutty and herbal complexity.
Production
The Vigneti Foscarino bottling comes from select parcels on Monte Foscarino, one of the most renowned hills in the Soave Classico area, characterized by steep slopes of basaltic volcanic soils that naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. The Garganega grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection in the vineyard, often in multiple passes to pick at optimal ripeness. In keeping with the estate’s aim to revive a more traditional Soave, winemaking is intentionally minimalist: gentle pressing, fermentation and élevage in older barrels or large neutral casks, and extended contact with the fine lees to build texture and complexity without overt oak influence. The result is a wine that speaks clearly of its terroir rather than of winemaking technique.
Food & Serving
Inama Vin Soave Classico Vigneti Foscarino 2023 is a versatile partner at the table, particularly well suited to refined seafood dishes such as scallops, grilled prawns, octopus, and simply prepared white fish, as well as Venetian classics like risotto with seafood or spring vegetables. It also pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal scaloppine, creamy pasta, and soft to semi‑hard cheeses such as taleggio or young asiago. Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its aromatics and minerality; a brief 20–30 minutes in a carafe before serving can help the wine open up and reveal its full aromatic detail.
Producer
Inama is a respected family‑run estate based in the heart of the Soave Classico zone in Veneto, founded in the 1960s by Giuseppe Inama with the vision of showcasing the region’s finest hillside vineyards. Over the decades, the estate has become one of the key quality benchmarks for Soave, particularly for its work on volcanic sites such as Monte Foscarino, where Garganega achieves exceptional depth and character. Today, under the guidance of the next generation, Inama is known not only for helping to redefine Soave as a serious, age‑worthy white wine, but also for its thoughtful, terroir‑driven approach and numerous accolades in Italy and abroad. Vigneti Foscarino is one of the estate’s flagship expressions, illustrating just how complex and distinctive Soave Classico can be when grown in the right place and handled with restraint.
