Description

A VDP.Grosse Lage Riesling from the Blaufüsser Lay parcel in the Uhlen vineyard, on the steep Terrassenmosel. Its name reflects the site’s blue-grey Devonian slate, while the Uhlen’s long history of steep-slope viticulture gives this single-vineyard wine a strong sense of place.

Production
The Uhlen vineyard spans the villages of Winningen and Kobern-Gondorf, where the Blaufüsser Lay parcel is defined by blue-grey Devonian slate with a relatively high clay content. The Riesling vines are up to 60 years old, with many growing on their own roots. Harvesting is by hand on slopes reaching up to 170%; the wine is described as spontaneously fermented and matured in a large 2,400-litre wooden cask, without added enzymes or fining agents. The supplied production details accompany a note for the 2017 vintage, so the precise methods for 2020 are not confirmed.
