Hartford Court Warrior Princess Pinot Noir 2019 is a powerful, characterful expression from one of Oregon’s most respected vineyards. Although only the second vintage of Warrior Princess, it already shows impressive depth and refinement, combining the elegance of Pinot Noir with the distinctive energy of Zena Crown’s volcanic terroir.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in colour, this Pinot Noir opens with generous aromas of dark cherry, redcurrant, violet, dark earth, tea and dried spices. The palate is rich and layered, revealing flavours of raspberry, boysenberry and cherry alongside floral violet and subtle juniper notes. Its vibrant fruit, integrated oak and firm structure suggest that it can develop further complexity with several years of bottle ageing, while remaining approachable now with suitable aeration.

Production
The grapes are sourced from the renowned Zena Crown Vineyard in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills, where volcanic soils contribute freshness, structure and mineral character. Hartford’s parcels are planted to a selection of Pinot Noir clones, including Pommard and Dijon 667 and 777. Winemaker Jeff Stewart matured the wine for 16 months in French oak, with 30% of the barrels being new, adding spice and texture while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 14–16°C. This richly styled Pinot Noir pairs particularly well with roast duck, game birds, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes and grilled salmon, while its earthy and spiced nuances also complement dishes featuring lentils or root vegetables. Decanting is not essential, but 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help the wine’s aromatic layers emerge, especially when enjoyed young.

The Hartford Court range focuses on site-driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and this Oregon bottling reflects the winery’s interest in showcasing distinctive terroirs beyond its Sonoma home. Warrior Princess is a young cuvée, but its early releases have demonstrated the ambition and quality associated with the Hartford name.
