Guidalberto 2024 is Tenuta San Guido’s elegant and approachable second wine, offering a polished expression of Bolgheri at a more accessible price than the estate’s iconic Sassicaia. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it combines Cabernet’s structure and freshness with Merlot’s supple fruit and early-drinking charm. It has established a reputation of its own as a distinguished Super Tuscan, rather than merely a companion to Sassicaia.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep ruby-red colour with attractive purple highlights. Its expressive nose reveals red and dark berries, ripe cherry and blackcurrant, layered with notes of cedar, cigar box, tobacco, leather and fresh Mediterranean herbs such as thyme and rosemary. On the palate, Guidalberto is medium- to full-bodied, juicy and harmonious, with vibrant acidity, finely grained tannins and generous fruit. A refined, spicy finish brings length and balance. It is enjoyable in its youth thanks to its supple texture, while its structure and freshness should allow it to develop further over the next several years when carefully stored.

Production
The grapes are sourced from Tenuta San Guido’s vineyards in Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast, where the maritime influence and varied soils help preserve freshness while supporting ripe, concentrated fruit. The blend is composed of approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. After harvesting, the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks before maturation for around 15 months in French and American oak barrels, adding structure, spice and finesse without overshadowing the fruit.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, giving the wine a short time to open in the glass. Decanting is not essential for a young bottle, although 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help reveal its aromatic complexity. Guidalberto pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted meat, roast beef, game and pasta with rich ragù or Bolognese sauce. It is also a natural match for pizza, mature cheeses or an evening enjoyed on its own.
