Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore Matarocchio 2022

Guado al Tasso Matarocchio is one of Bolgheri’s most prestigious single-vineyard wines, crafted by Tenuta Guado al Tasso from Cabernet Franc. Produced only in exceptional vintages, it combines the Mediterranean character of the Tuscan coast with the structure and finesse of a great Bordeaux-inspired red, making the 2022 vintage a notable addition to the estate’s distinguished collection.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour with intense garnet reflections, the 2022 Matarocchio opens with concentrated aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum, layered with violets, cedar, graphite, tobacco and finely integrated spice from oak ageing. On the palate, it is full-bodied and precise, with generous dark-fruit flavours supported by polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish. Its balance and structure suggest excellent ageing potential, with further complexity expected to develop over the next 10–20 years under suitable cellar conditions.

Production
The wine comes from the Matarocchio vineyard at Tenuta Guado al Tasso in Bolgheri, where a maritime climate, abundant sunshine and cooling coastal breezes help Cabernet Franc ripen fully while retaining freshness. The soils are characterised by gravel, sand and clay, with mineral-rich elements that contribute to the wine’s depth and definition. Grapes are carefully harvested by hand and selected before fermentation, followed by maturation in French oak barriques and extended bottle ageing to refine the wine’s tannins and complexity.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the wine to breathe. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended when enjoying the bottle young, both to open its aromatic profile and to soften its structure. Its depth makes it an excellent partner for grilled or roasted beef, venison, lamb, wild boar, truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses.
