Description
Giacomo Conterno’s 2018 Barolo Arione brings the vineyard’s power and mineral character into focus with precision rather than weight. From a celebrated site just south of Serralunga d’Alba, it is a poised expression of Nebbiolo in a vintage that offers approachability without sacrificing depth or longevity.
Tasting Notes
Bright red fruit leads the way, with notes of cherry, raspberry and blood orange alongside rose petals, mint, tobacco and a subtle iron-like mineral edge. The palate is clear and energetic, framed by firm tannins and refreshing acidity that carry through to a long, composed finish.
Less massive than the most structured Barolo vintages, 2018 can be enjoyed with thoughtful aeration, though it has the structure to develop further in the cellar. With age, expect the fruit and floral character to give way to notes of dried flowers, tar, woodland and truffle.
Production
Arione lies just south of Serralunga d’Alba, where the site is known for Barolo with warmth, power and a pronounced mineral structure. Conterno’s traditional vinification and maturation in large casks allow the Nebbiolo and vineyard character to take centre stage. Specific details about the 2018 harvest and harvesting methods are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with braised beef, roast lamb, game or dishes featuring mushrooms and truffle. Decant for one to two hours before serving to give the wine room to open, particularly if enjoying it young.

Giacomo Conterno is a family-run estate based in Monforte d’Alba and one of Barolo’s most respected traditional producers.
