Description

Giacomo Borgogno’s No Name is a characterful, approachable expression of Nebbiolo from the Langhe, presented here in a generous magnum format. Created as a protest against wine-world bureaucracy, it carries a distinctive story alongside the historic producer’s deep roots in Piemonte.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright ruby-red hue, with an ethereal, floral nose of rose and wild strawberry, complemented by fine spice and a subtle earthy note. On the palate it is dry and harmonious, with lively freshness and elegant, polished tannins giving the wine both poise and structure. Its balance and Nebbiolo backbone make it enjoyable young, while the wine’s structure offers scope for further development in the cellar. The magnum format is also well suited to slower evolution over time.

Production
The Nebbiolo comes from the Langhe, in vineyards within the historic Barolo area, where south-facing slopes and calcareous, clay-rich soils over marl help support even ripening and defined structure. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected. Fermentation takes place with naturally occurring yeasts in cement or stainless-steel tanks, followed by extended maceration. The wine is aged for around three years in large Slavonian oak casks and bottled without filtration.

Food & Serving
Enjoy with traditional Piedmontese dishes, such as tajarin with a meat ragù, braised meats, or aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. A brief decant before serving can help the wine open and reveal its floral and earthy aromas.

Producer
Founded in Barolo in 1761, Borgogno is one of Piemonte’s historic wine estates and is closely connected to the region’s winemaking identity. The house has also been associated with the celebrations surrounding Italian unification in 1861. Its No Name bottling reflects a willingness to challenge convention while remaining rooted in the character of Nebbiolo and its place of origin.
