Gevrey Chambertin Cuvée De Très Vieilles Vignes Domaine Mortet Arnaud, 2023

One of the exciting names in modern Sancerre, this producer has built a strong following among sommeliers for meticulous vineyard work and a low-intervention approach. This cuvée captures the new wave of Loire wine: precise, terroir-driven and full of personality. A great choice if you’re moving beyond mainstream Sancerre and want to discover what’s currently exciting in the region.

A seductive Saint-Émilion from the outstanding 2009 vintage, Pavie Macquin combines baked blackberry, ripe plum and prune with exotic five-spice, liquorice and floral notes. Full-bodied and velvety, it balances opulent fruit with polished tannins and integrated acidity, finishing long and perfumed. Beautifully mature, it’s a natural match for roast lamb, duck, game or truffle.

The In den Zehn Morgen winery is one of the exciting rising stars in the Nahe. The wines benefit from the cooler climate, and this shows very well even in a cool year like 2021. Here, Chardonnay is made with fine oak and, given the conditions, is slightly creamy and exceptionally long-lived.

Viña Bosconia from the traditional winery R. López de Heredia is always a guarantee. Five years of aging in used American oak barrels and additional time in bottle at the winery before the wine is released to the market. The wine is already ready to drink upon release, but with a little patience it reveals its full potential.

Maybe the coolest and most minimalistic label of them all. Arnot-Roberts, by Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Roberts, was founded in 2001 and has since become one of California's most iconic producers. Terroir-driven wines from many interesting vineyards and grapes. And of course, you can't go wrong with Chardonnay!

I love aged Burgundy when it gets the chance to show what time can do to Pinot Noir. Chicotot 1996 has nearly 30 years behind it, and this is not about fresh fruit, but about forest floor, dried herbs, leather, and complexity. Nuits-Saint-Georges with history in the glass—this is a bottle I would open slowly and share with good friends.
