Description

A rare 1959 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese from Kaseler Kernagel in the historic Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region, produced by Fritz Patheiger Erben. With more than six decades of bottle age, this is a distinctive German dessert wine that combines concentrated sweetness with the vibrant acidity characteristic of Riesling.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays an intense golden-yellow colour, reflecting both its naturally concentrated style and its long maturation in bottle. Its complex bouquet offers aromas of ripe fruit, honey and delicate spice, with the developed character expected from a mature Trockenbeerenauslese. On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly sweet, balanced by a pleasant acidity that prevents the wine from feeling heavy. The finish is long and persistent, making this a particularly compelling bottle for attentive tasting. As a 1959 vintage, it is already mature; its condition and remaining ageing potential will depend greatly on storage history and bottle level.

Production
Sourced from the Kaseler Kernagel vineyard in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, this wine reflects the region’s tradition of producing intensely concentrated, naturally sweet Rieslings. Trockenbeerenauslese is made from individually selected, highly concentrated grapes harvested at exceptional ripeness, resulting in a small volume of richly flavoured wine. Specific details regarding the harvest method, botrytis development and vinification are not available for this bottle.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C, and allow the wine a little time in the glass to reveal its mature aromas. It is suited to fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée and other delicate sweet dishes, while its acidity also makes it an excellent partner for blue cheese and mature, salty cheeses. Decanting is not usually necessary, although careful decanting may be considered if sediment is present or if the bottle benefits from gentle aeration.
