Description
Fattoria San Lorenzo La Gattara 2019 is a characterful red from Italy’s Marche region, combining the dark-fruited richness of Montepulciano with the savoury freshness of Sangiovese. The wine reflects the region’s distinctive balance between Mediterranean warmth and Adriatic-influenced freshness, offering an expressive alternative to more familiar Italian reds.
Tasting Notes
The 2019 vintage presents a deep ruby-red colour, likely showing garnet nuances with development. Aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum are complemented by savoury notes of dried herbs, spice and earthy undertones. On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied, with generous dark fruit, refreshing acidity and structured tannins. Its balance and concentration make it enjoyable now, while careful cellaring should allow further development over the next few years.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C, allowing the wine to open in the glass before drinking. Decanting for 30–60 minutes can help soften the tannins and reveal more of its aromatic complexity, particularly when served young. Its combination of fruit, acidity and structure makes it a natural match for grilled or braised red meats, roast pork, wild boar, hearty pasta dishes and mature hard cheeses.
