Ettore Germano Alta Langa Extra Brut 2022 is a refined sparkling wine from Piedmont, crafted from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir using the traditional method. With fruit sourced from high-altitude vineyards and at least 30 months of lees ageing, it combines the elegance of classic-method sparkling wine with the distinctive freshness and mineral character of Alta Langa. The historic Ettore Germano estate, founded in 1856, is part of Piedmont’s long-standing tradition of producing high-quality sparkling wines.

Tasting Notes
The wine has an intense straw-yellow colour and a fine, persistent perlage. Its aroma is expressive and complex, offering notes of freshly baked bread and brioche alongside dried fruit and delicate floral nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich on entry, with lively acidity and a smooth, creamy mousse providing balance. The finish is clean, refreshing and notably persistent, with the wine’s mineral freshness and lees-derived character lingering gracefully. Its structure and acidity make it enjoyable now, while allowing it to develop further complexity over the coming years when stored properly.

Production
The grapes come from Ettore Germano’s Alta Langa vineyards, situated at more than 500 metres above sea level on calcareous, stony soils of moderate fertility. These elevated sites and favourable exposures support slow, even ripening while preserving the acidity essential for elegant sparkling wine. The grapes are hand-harvested in early September and whole-cluster pressed to obtain the finest free-run juice. After the initial fermentation at low temperature, the wine matures on its lees with gentle bâtonnage. The second fermentation takes place in bottle according to the traditional method, followed by a minimum of 30 months of lees ageing. At disgorgement, the wine is topped up with the same sparkling wine, preserving its purity and dry Extra Brut profile.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C in a tulip-shaped sparkling-wine glass to highlight both the mousse and the wine’s aromas. Its freshness and creamy texture make it an excellent partner for oysters, seafood, shellfish, sushi and delicate fish dishes, while its richness also complements fried appetisers, soft cheeses and light poultry preparations. Decanting is not necessary; allow the wine a few minutes in the glass after opening to let its brioche and dried-fruit notes unfold.
