Erste+Neue Puntay Lagrein Riserva 2022 is a powerful, finely structured red from Alto Adige, made from the region’s distinctive indigenous Lagrein grape. As part of the Puntay selection, it represents the winery’s premium interpretation of this dark-skinned variety, combining generous fruit with polished oak and impressive cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in colour, the wine opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe blackberries, dark cherries and plums, complemented by violet, cocoa, spice and subtle smoky notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly textured, with concentrated dark fruit, well-integrated tannins and a refreshing vein of acidity. Hints of dark chocolate, herbs and gentle toast linger on the long finish. With its structure and depth, the 2022 vintage can be enjoyed now after decanting or developed further in bottle over the next several years.

Production
Lagrein thrives in Alto Adige’s warm, sunny valley sites, where cool Alpine influences help preserve freshness and aromatic definition. The grapes are carefully selected at harvest and vinified to extract colour, flavour and structure, followed by maturation in wood to soften the tannins and add layers of spice and toast. The result is a Riserva with both regional character and a refined, age-worthy style.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C, ideally after decanting for 30–60 minutes to open the aromas and round out the tannins. Its rich, structured profile pairs especially well with braised beef, venison, roast lamb, game dishes and hearty pasta with ragù. It is also a natural match for Alto Adige specialities such as speck and richly flavoured mountain cheeses.
