Description

Emrich-Schönleber’s 2011 Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is a rare, highly concentrated dessert wine from one of the Nahe’s most celebrated vineyard sites. Made from exceptionally ripe, shrivelled Riesling berries, this half-bottle combines remarkable sweetness with the vibrant acidity that gives great German Riesling its longevity and precision.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows an intense golden-yellow colour, hinting at its concentration and maturity. Its layered bouquet opens with ripe yellow fruit, honey and dried-fruit nuances, complemented by delicate spice and botrytis-derived complexity. On the palate, it is rich, luscious and full-bodied, with concentrated flavours of ripe fruit and honey balanced by lively acidity. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, leaving a refined interplay of sweetness, freshness and spice. With its natural concentration and acidity, this 2011 TBA has excellent ageing potential and can continue to develop for many years when carefully stored.

Production
The grapes come from the steep, stony slopes of Monzinger Halenberg in the Nahe, a site renowned for producing Rieslings of depth, minerality and precision. As a Trockenbeerenauslese, the wine is made from individually selected berries that have remained on the vine until intensely ripe and shrivelled, often with the influence of noble rot. This process naturally concentrates the sugars, flavours and acidity, resulting in a small-production wine of exceptional intensity.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C in small tulip-shaped glasses. It is a natural match for fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, pâtisserie, blue cheese and foie gras, while its acidity also makes it a superb accompaniment to spicy dishes. It can be enjoyed as an aperitif or served in small pours at the end of a meal. Decanting is generally unnecessary, although carefully opening the bottle and allowing it a few minutes in the glass can reveal additional layers.

Producer
Emrich-Schönleber is a highly respected family estate based in Monzingen, in Germany’s Nahe region. The domaine is particularly associated with its outstanding Rieslings from the steep, mineral-rich sites around Monzingen, including the celebrated Halenberg vineyard. Known for combining precision, purity and impressive ageing ability, the estate is regarded as one of the leading producers of the Nahe.
