Description
Emrich-Schönleber’s 2000 Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen Riesling Eiswein is a rare, mature dessert wine from one of the Nahe’s most respected estates. Presented in a limited 375 ml bottle with the distinctive Goldkapsel auction designation, it offers collectors a special example of Germany’s celebrated ice wine tradition.
Tasting Notes
Bright golden in colour, this Eiswein opens with concentrated aromas of ripe peach, apricot and honey, accompanied by the rich, expressive character typical of naturally frozen Riesling grapes. The palate is full-bodied and generously sweet, yet finely balanced by refreshing acidity. A long, harmonious finish completes the wine.
With more than two decades of bottle age, this is a mature and collectible Riesling Eiswein that can be enjoyed now. Properly stored, its combination of sweetness and acidity should allow it to develop further over time.
Production
The wine comes from the Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen vineyard in the Nahe, a site known for producing elegant and concentrated Rieslings. For Eiswein, healthy grapes are left on the vine until they freeze naturally, concentrating their sugars, acidity and flavours before being harvested and pressed while frozen. The resulting wine is made in a small format, preserving its intensity and making the 375 ml bottle particularly well suited to sharing or collecting. The Goldkapsel Versteigerung 2000 designation underlines its special auction presentation and rarity.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C as an aperitif or alongside crème brûlée, tiramisu, fruit salad, fruit-based pastries and blue cheese. Its vibrant acidity also makes it a natural partner for foie gras or lightly spiced Asian cuisine. Decanting is generally unnecessary; open carefully and allow the wine a few minutes in the glass to reveal its full aromatic complexity.
Producer
Emrich-Schönleber is a renowned family estate based in Monzingen in the Nahe wine region, with a long-standing reputation for precise, terroir-driven Rieslings. The winery is particularly associated with the steep vineyards around Monzingen, including Frühlingsplätzchen, and is recognised for producing wines that combine concentration, finesse and longevity. This auction-designated 2000 Eiswein reflects the estate’s ability to create rare, age-worthy sweet wines.
