Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep golden hue, with the colour and richness expected from a mature, concentrated Riesling. Its bouquet is intensely perfumed, revealing ripe peach and apricot alongside honeyed notes and the complex tones that develop with extended bottle age. On the palate, it is full-bodied, sweet and wonderfully concentrated, yet kept vibrant by Riesling’s characteristic acidity. Layers of stone fruit, honey and mature richness lead to a long, elegant finish. At almost five decades old, it should be approached as a mature collector’s wine; its condition and storage history will be important factors in its further ageing potential.

Production
The wine originates from the renowned Scharzhofberg vineyard in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, a site celebrated for its steep slopes, slate-rich soils and favourable exposure. Made from Riesling grapes selected at exceptional ripeness, the Eiswein-Beerenauslese style combines intense natural sweetness with remarkable concentration and freshness. The Goldkapsel designation identifies it as one of the estate’s most exclusive bottlings.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C, allowing a little time in the glass for its mature aromas to unfold. It is an excellent partner for fruit-based desserts, apricot or peach tart, crème brûlée and rich pâtisserie, while its acidity also makes it a refined match for blue cheese and foie gras. Decanting is not essential, but a careful transfer can help separate any mature sediment; alternatively, serve directly from the bottle after standing upright.
