Description

A rare Rheingau dessert wine from the celebrated 1976 vintage, this Erbacher Michelmark Ruländer Trockenbeerenauslese Goldkapsel was made by Eberhard Ritter und Edler von Oetinger. Produced from exceptionally concentrated, hand-selected grapes, it represents the richness and longevity associated with Germany’s finest sweet wines and has spent decades developing in bottle.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep golden hue, reflecting its long maturation. Its mature bouquet brings together honey, dried apricot and exotic fruit, with the concentration and complexity expected from a Trockenbeerenauslese. On the palate, generous sweetness is balanced by lively acidity, creating a refined, harmonious profile and a long, persistent finish. Although already fully mature, this 1976 bottling may continue to evolve when carefully stored. As with any historic wine, its condition and development will depend on provenance and storage, making it particularly appealing to collectors and lovers of mature sweet wines.

Production
Made from Ruländer, the traditional German name for Pinot Gris, this wine comes from the Erbacher Michelmark vineyard in the Rheingau. The grapes were hand-selected at an exceptional level of ripeness and concentration, characteristic of Trockenbeerenauslese wines. The wine was bottled in 1976 and has matured in bottle for decades; the Goldkapsel denotes its distinguished quality and rarity.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C. Its concentrated sweetness and balancing acidity make it an excellent match for foie gras, blue cheeses, fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée and apricot or almond pastries. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative finale to a meal. Decanting is generally not necessary, but carefully standing the bottle upright before opening and pouring gently can help preserve any sediment or fragile mature aromas.

Producer
Eberhard Ritter und Edler von Oetinger is the named producer of this historic Rheingau bottling. While detailed background information on the estate is not provided, the wine’s Erbacher Michelmark origin, 1976 vintage and Goldkapsel presentation place it firmly among the region’s rare, mature sweet-wine offerings.
