Domaine Rieffel Pinot Noir Nature 2023

Domaine Rieffel Pinot Noir Nature 2023 is a strikingly pure and uncompromising take on Pinot Noir from Alsace, made with a hands-off approach that lets the vineyard speak clearly. Sourced from old biodynamically farmed vines in Mittelbergheim, it reflects both the finesse of the region and the growing reputation of natural winemaking in Alsace.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a translucent ruby hue typical of Pinot Noir, with an inviting, lively brightness. The nose is perfumed and expressive, leading with sour cherry, small wild strawberries, and hints of dried rose petals, backed by a subtle earthy edge. The palate is juicy yet taut, with a clear line of freshness that keeps the wine focused and energetic. Fine tannins and precise acidity give it shape, while the natural vinification adds texture and a sense of depth. This is a wine that will continue to evolve beautifully in bottle, and it can also be fascinating to follow over several hours or even days after opening.

Production
The grapes come from more than 30-year-old vines rooted in clay and sandstone soils in Mittelbergheim, in the heart of Alsace. Harvested by hand, the fruit underwent 100% whole-cluster maceration followed by spontaneous fermentation, then aged for seven months in old barriques before a spontaneous malolactic fermentation. It was bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulfur, preserving its natural character and allowing the terroir to remain fully visible.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 14–16°C with roast poultry, duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, or charcuterie. Decanting is strongly recommended to let the wine open and shed any initial reduction; if you have the patience, it can also be enjoyed over a longer period as it develops in the glass.
