Description

Produced only in the estate’s finest vintages from some of its oldest Châteauneuf-du-Pape vines, Réserve des Deux Frères is one of Domaine Pierre Usseglio et Fils’ most sought-after cuvées. The hot 2003 vintage yielded a wine of remarkable concentration and power, now prized for the complexity it has gained with bottle age.

Tasting Notes
Matured to a deep garnet hue, it opens with aromas of blackberry, ripe plum and kirsch, layered with liquorice, Provençal herbs and hints of smoked meat. With age, notes of forest floor, leather, truffle and balsamic spice add further depth. The palate is full-bodied and richly concentrated, with dark fruit and garrigue carried by a silky texture and a long, persistent finish. Despite its impressive weight, the wine is described as harmonious and balanced. It is now at a mature stage; its remaining drinking window will depend on storage and the condition of the individual bottle.

Production
The cuvée comes from some of the domaine’s oldest vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and is made only in the best vintages. The 2003 growing season was exceptionally hot, contributing to the wine’s concentration and depth. Further details about the vineyard sites, harvest methods and vinification are not available.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with slow-roasted lamb, beef, game or a hearty mushroom dish. Pour carefully and decant gently if needed to separate any bottle sediment; as a mature wine, it may benefit from a little air, but avoid prolonged decanting.
