Domaine Marquis d'Angerville’s Bourgogne Aligoté 2021 is a refined take on one of Burgundy’s most characterful white grapes, offering freshness, texture, and surprising persistence. From a producer best known for precision and pedigree, this wine brings a more serious, terroir-driven expression to a variety often overlooked, with a style that feels both classically Burgundian and distinctly modern.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, pale straw colour with a lively sheen in the glass. On the nose, it is restrained and elegant, with notes leaning more toward peach skin than grapefruit, giving the bouquet a softer, more rounded profile than many Aligotés.
The palate is marked by appealing texture and a clean, focused line of acidity, with a subtle saline edge and a touch of length on the finish. It has the freshness expected of the variety, but also a sense of depth and balance that makes it especially engaging now; while it can be enjoyed young, it should hold nicely over the next few years.
Production
Sourced from Burgundy’s limestone-rich soils, this Aligoté reflects the freshness and mineral tension that define the region’s white wines. Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is known for careful vineyard work and a restrained winemaking approach, allowing the character of the grape and site to come through with clarity. Harvesting is typically done by hand, with vinification aimed at preserving purity, precision, and textural detail.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine, excellent with oysters, white fish, shellfish, goat’s cheese, and light salads, as well as poultry dishes with lemon or herbs. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, although a brief aeration can help if the wine is served very young.
Producer
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is one of Burgundy’s most respected estates, long associated with meticulous viticulture and some of the region’s most sought-after vineyards in Volnay. The domaine has built its reputation on elegance, purity, and authenticity, and is widely admired for wines that express their origins with exceptional clarity and finesse.
