Domaine Marjan Simcic BRDA Cru Selection Chardonnay 2024

Domaine Marjan Simčič BRDA Cru Selection Chardonnay 2024 is a dry, full-bodied Slovenian Chardonnay shaped by the mineral-rich hills of Brda, also known as Collio. Native-yeast fermentation, a brief period of skin contact and extended oak ageing give it depth and freshness, while its family heritage reaches back to 1860.

Tasting Notes
The wine is described as intense and fresh, with aromas of apple, cashew and citrus alongside subtle, well-integrated oak. On the palate, expect a generous texture balanced by spice and lively freshness, finishing dry with a persistent mineral character. Its structure and freshness support a stated ageing potential of around five to ten years. Enjoy it young for its brightness, or allow time in bottle for its flavours to develop further.

Production
The Chardonnay comes from Brda vineyards at 150–250 metres above sea level, on south-east- and south-west-facing slopes. The calcareous soils and mineral-rich marl are central to the wine’s pronounced mineral profile. Grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September and gently pressed, followed by two days of skin maceration and fermentation with naturally occurring yeasts in truncated-cone oak vats. The wine then spends 21 months ageing in oak and is bottled unfiltered.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 10–12°C, allowing it to warm slightly in the glass. Its body and mineral finish make it a natural match for roast poultry, grilled fish, shellfish or a creamy risotto. A short, gentle decant of around 20 minutes can help open the aromas; decant carefully to preserve its freshness.

The Simčič family has been involved in viticulture since 1860, and Marjan Simčič’s wines express the distinctive hills and soils of Brda in Slovenia’s Primorska region. This Chardonnay is part of the producer’s Cru Selection, made from carefully selected grapes and rooted in the area’s long winemaking tradition.
