Description
Domaine Frédéric Esmonin Bourgogne Pinot Noir Les Genévrières 2024 is a lively and elegant Burgundy red that delivers the domaine’s signature Gevrey-Chambertin character at an accessible appellation level. Made from selected parcels in and around Gevrey-Chambertin, along with declassified fruit from renowned sites, it combines juicy Pinot Noir fruit, subtle spice and impressive finesse. The Esmonin family is one of the long-established names in Gevrey-Chambertin, with a history of supplying grapes to leading négociants including Leroy and Jadot.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby in colour, this Pinot Noir opens with inviting aromas of red berries, fresh cherry and raspberry, complemented by delicate floral notes and a gentle touch of spice. On the palate, it is juicy, fresh and finely structured, with a lifted, mineral impression and silky tannins. The style is elegant and easy-drinking, yet offers enough depth to reveal its Burgundy origins. Enjoyable now for its vibrant fruit and freshness, it should develop gracefully over the next few years.
Production
The wine is sourced from selected vineyards in and around Gevrey-Chambertin, an area known for its limestone-rich soils and naturally structured Pinot Noir. Fruit from prestigious sites that does not form part of the domaine’s higher appellation wines is also used, adding depth and complexity. Domaine Frédéric Esmonin follows a lutte raisonnée approach, avoiding unnecessary chemical treatments and using organic compost. The wine is matured for 14 months in French oak barrels, allowing the fruit, spice and subtle structure to integrate without overwhelming its freshness.
Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, to highlight the wine’s freshness and delicate texture. It is a versatile partner for roast chicken, duck, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes, charcuterie and mildly seasoned autumn vegetables. Decanting is not essential, although a short 20–30 minute aeration can help open the wine’s aromatic profile, particularly when enjoyed in its youth.
Producer
Domaine Frédéric Esmonin is a small, family-run estate based in Gevrey-Chambertin, covering approximately 6.5 hectares, primarily in and around the appellation. Until 1987, the domaine sold its entire production to négociants such as Leroy and Jadot, and some of Leroy’s celebrated mid-20th-century wines are reputed to have included fruit from the estate. Today, the Esmonin family produces wines from three Premier Cru and three Grand Cru vineyards, and is recognised as one of the promising and respected growers in Gevrey-Chambertin.
