Domaine des Roches Neuves Les Mémoires is a remarkable single-parcel Saumur-Champigny made entirely from Cabernet Franc. The vines were planted in 1904 on just 0.7 hectares of flint-rich soil and remain ungrafted, giving this organically produced cuvée an extraordinary historical and viticultural significance. Under the guidance of Thierry Germain, the wine combines the concentration of exceptionally old vines with a precise, low-intervention style.

Tasting Notes
Deep and imposing in colour, Les Mémoires offers a highly layered nose of dark berries, plum and prune, complemented by tobacco smoke and subtle festive spice. On the palate, it is powerful and opulent, with concentrated dark-fruit flavours and a fine, pronounced acidity that provides energy and prevents the wine from feeling heavy. Hints of elderberry and savoury spice add further complexity, while the tannins contribute structure and length. This is a serious, age-worthy Saumur-Champigny with the balance and concentration to develop beautifully in bottle. It can be enjoyed now with decanting, but should gain added nuance over the next several years and continue to mature well beyond that.

Production
The wine comes from a tiny 0.7-hectare parcel of ungrafted Cabernet Franc vines planted in 1904 on flint-rich soils, a distinctive terroir that allows the variety to express remarkable depth and mineral detail. The grapes are cultivated organically and handled with a low-intervention philosophy in the cellar, allowing the character of the old vines and site to remain at the centre of the wine. Harvesting and vinification focus on preserving freshness, structure and the naturally expressive character of the fruit.

Food & Serving
Its depth and structure make Les Mémoires an excellent match for roast beef, venison, lamb, duck and slow-cooked pork, as well as earthy dishes featuring mushrooms or lentils. Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C. Decant for approximately 1–2 hours when serving young to open the aromatics and soften the wine’s youthful structure.
