Description

From one of Burgundy’s most revered domaines, the 2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses from Comte Georges de Vogüé is a jewel of a cuvée, produced in tiny quantities due to ongoing replanting in the vineyard. This is a highly sought-after Pinot Noir that combines the delicacy and perfume of Chambolle with the intense focus and depth that have made Les Amoureuses one of the most coveted premier crus in the Côte de Nuits. With only a fraction of the estate’s 0.56 hectares in full production, this vintage is as rare as it is refined, echoing the long history of excellence that de Vogüé has maintained in Chambolle-Musigny for generations.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Les Amoureuses presents a limpid, shimmering ruby hue, with the kind of brightness and translucency that signals both finesse and concentration. The nose is immediately seductive: pure red cherry, wild raspberry and ripe plum intertwine with rose petals, hints of peony, and a subtle layering of warm spice—think pink peppercorn, mild clove and a touch of star anise. Underneath the floral and fruit tones lies a discreet mineral impression that adds lift and precision. On the palate, this is medium to full-bodied yet weightless, with a silken texture that glides rather than pushes. A primary core of vivid red fruit—cherry, raspberry coulis and a touch of blood orange zest—is framed by ultra-fine, powdery tannins and a vibrant, mouthwatering salinity on the finish. The wine is already charming and expressive in its youth, but the structure and energy suggest excellent aging potential: it should evolve gracefully over 15–20 years or more, gaining complexity in its floral, spice and underbrush nuances while preserving its hallmark elegance.

Production
Les Amoureuses is a famed premier cru parcel in Chambolle-Musigny, set on a slope of well-drained, limestone-rich soils mixed with fine clay and pebbles that favor delicacy, aromatic lift and mineral definition. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé farms its 0.56 hectares with meticulous attention, and in 2022 close to 0.20 hectares were under replanting, further limiting yields and naturally concentrating the remaining fruit. Harvesting is carried out by hand at optimal ripeness, with careful sorting in the vineyard and at the cellar to retain only perfectly healthy clusters. Vinification at de Vogüé is classically Burgundian, typically involving gentle destemming (with the proportion of whole bunches adjusted to the vintage), a cool pre-fermentation maceration and a controlled fermentation in vats, followed by élevage in French oak barrels—only a proportion of which are new—to preserve the purity of fruit, the transparent expression of terroir and the signature finesse of Chambolle.

Food & Serving
This refined Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is best paired with dishes that echo its delicacy and depth rather than overwhelm it: roasted pigeon or quail, duck breast with cherries, veal tenderloin with morels, or simply prepared lamb with fine herbs are all excellent matches. On the lighter side, truffled poultry, wild mushroom dishes and mature, but not overly powerful, cow’s milk cheeses such as Comté or aged Gruyère work beautifully. Serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F) in large Burgundy stems to showcase the aromatics. In its youth, a gentle decant of 45–60 minutes helps the wine open and integrate; as it matures, simply pouring into the glass and allowing it to unfurl slowly over the course of a meal is often the most rewarding approach.

Producer
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of the historic pillars of Chambolle-Musigny, with roots stretching back to the mid-15th century and an unbroken family lineage that has shaped the reputation of this village’s greatest vineyards. The estate is best known as the largest proprietor in Musigny, but its holdings in Les Amoureuses are equally legendary, producing some of the most refined and enchanting Pinot Noir in Burgundy. Renowned for its rigorous vineyard work, low yields and traditional yet precise winemaking, de Vogüé has long been a benchmark for purity of terroir expression in the Côte de Nuits. Its wines are coveted by collectors worldwide and consistently figure among the most highly regarded and long-lived expressions of Chambolle-Musigny.
