Domaine Chanzy Mercurey Clos du Roy Rouge Premier Cru 2022 is an expressive Pinot Noir from one of Mercurey’s most respected vineyard sites in the Côte Chalonnaise. It combines ripe Burgundy fruit, refined structure, and a subtle touch of oak, offering a polished snapshot of a classic premier cru terroir in a generous 2022 vintage.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby-red colour that immediately signals freshness and finesse. The nose opens with red cherries and raspberries, then moves into more nuanced notes of forest floor, gentle spice, and a hint of oak-derived complexity.
On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied with juicy red fruit, lively acidity, and fine-grained tannins that give it shape without weighing it down. The 2022 vintage’s warmth brings concentration and ripeness, while the cool Burgundian nights preserve balance and lift. It can be enjoyed now for its vibrant fruit, but it should also develop added savouriness and depth over the next few years.
Production
The grapes come from Clos du Roy, a well-regarded Premier Cru climat in Mercurey whose limestone and clay soils contribute both structure and a distinct mineral edge. The 2022 season was warm and sunny, allowing the Pinot Noir to reach full maturity while maintaining freshness thanks to cool nighttime temperatures. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing in oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak to add texture, spice, and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine is a natural match for roast poultry, veal, pork dishes, and mild cheeses, especially when served with mushroom, herb, or light cream sauces. Serve it slightly cool, around 15–17°C, and consider decanting for 20–30 minutes if opening it young to allow the aromas to unfold more fully.
Producer
Domaine Chanzy is a respected Burgundy producer with a strong reputation for site-driven wines that reflect the character of their appellations. Based in the Côte Chalonnaise, the domaine has built recognition for precise, terroir-focused bottlings that highlight the elegance and authenticity of Burgundy, with Mercurey among its most notable sources.
