Description
Clos St Antonin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2023 is a graceful, full-bodied red from one of the Rhône Valley’s most celebrated appellations. Made from a classic blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, it brings together richness, finesse and the signature spice of southern France in a wine with real pedigree and charm. It is crafted by the Sabon family, the name behind Domaine de la Janasse, adding a layer of historical significance and expertise to every bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a ruby-red color with a slight purple edge, hinting at its youthful energy and depth. The nose opens with vibrant red fruit aromas, followed by layers of spice and subtle complexity that reflect both the fruit and the carefully handled élevage.
On the palate, the wine is elegant yet generous, with a full body, fine and silky tannins, and a beautifully balanced structure. The 2023 vintage offers plenty of freshness alongside ripeness, making it immediately appealing while also having the balance to develop further over the next several years.
Production
Produced in the heart of Provence within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, this wine is rooted in the region’s warm Mediterranean climate and iconic terroir. The blend is composed of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, with 80% of the grapes destemmed before a traditional vinification and a maceration period of 15 to 18 days. Aging takes place with 20% of the wine matured in barrel, one-third of which are new, adding subtle texture and complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, herb-crusted game, grilled beef, or Provençal dishes with Mediterranean herbs and vegetables. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and decanting for about 1 hour is recommended to allow the wine’s aromas and silky structure to fully open up.
