Description
Claus Preisinger’s Pannobile Bio 2023 is a distinctive Burgenland red that showcases the character of Austria’s indigenous grape varieties. Made from Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt and produced from biodynamically farmed vineyards, it forms part of the Pannobile tradition—a respected alliance of leading northern Burgenland estates dedicated to expressing the region’s identity rather than relying on international varieties.
Tasting Notes
The wine is expected to show a deep ruby to garnet colour, with the vibrant freshness and energy associated with Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt. Aromas centre on ripe red and dark berries, sour cherry, plums and subtle floral notes, complemented by earthy, spicy and gently savoury nuances.
On the palate, it combines juicy fruit with refreshing acidity, fine tannins and a subtly peppery character. The style is likely to be both elegant and full-bodied, with a lively, gastronomic finish. While approachable in its youth, the wine should gain additional complexity over the next several years as its fruit, spice and savoury elements develop further.
Production
The grapes come from biodynamically farmed vineyards in the northern Burgenland, including sites around Wagram and the Parndorfer Platte. Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt are hand-harvested with strict selection, then spontaneously fermented, partly in open vats, to preserve the natural character of the fruit and its origins. As a Pannobile wine, it is subject to the group’s shared quality standards and tasting approval before it may carry the Pannobile designation.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Its combination of freshness, spice and supple tannins makes it an excellent match for roast duck, grilled or braised pork, venison, mushroom dishes and hearty vegetable preparations. Decanting is not essential for enjoying the wine young, although 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help open the aromatics and soften the structure.
