Château Rieussec 2003

Château Rieussec 2003 is a richly styled Sauternes from one of Bordeaux’s most respected sweet wine estates. With its golden colour, honeyed fruit and finely judged oak, it shows both classic decadence and impressive structure, offering excellent long-term potential.

Tasting Notes
Pale to medium golden-gold in the glass, the 2003 opens with reserved but very pure aromas of fruit salad, spice and vanilla, lifted by floral and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is lush and honeyed, with dense fruit flavours layered with cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, all supported by a seductive oak frame. There is still a youthful edge to the wine, with a touch of firmness and heat in the finish, but that only hints at what is to come. The aftertaste is long and spice-driven, with vanilla-scented oak lingering beautifully; this vintage has excellent ageing potential and should continue to develop complexity over many years.

Production
Château Rieussec is located in Sauternes, where the combination of morning mists, sunshine and well-draining soils creates ideal conditions for noble rot. The grapes are typically harvested by hand in successive passes to pick only the perfectly botrytised berries, and the wine is vinified with careful attention to preserving balance between sweetness, freshness and oak influence.

Food & Serving
Serve Château Rieussec 2003 lightly chilled, ideally around 8–10°C. It pairs beautifully with blue cheese, foie gras, tarte tatin, crème brûlée and fruit-based desserts; a brief decant is not usually necessary, though opening it a little in advance can help the aromas unfold.
