Why shop with us?
Presented in a highly limited black gift box of six bottles, Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2015 is a distinguished Pauillac from a Second Growth estate renowned for wines of depth and refinement. The château’s roots date to 1689, and its 1855 classification places it among Bordeaux’s most celebrated properties.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet-purple in colour, the 2015 opens with inviting aromas of chocolate-covered cherries, redcurrants and mulberries, layered with baking spices, potpourri, bay leaf and a subtle earthy note. On the palate, expressive red fruit meets finely textured yet firm tannins, with freshness and a long, perfumed finish. Its structure and intensity suggest excellent ageing potential; it is expected to develop gracefully for more than 30 years.
Production
From Pauillac, where gravel-rich soils are well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc is made with meticulous attention to vineyard conditions and plot selection. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation and a three-to-four-week maceration. After malolactic fermentation, selected wines are matured in barrels in the château’s cellars and assessed through repeated tastings before blending.
Food & Serving
Enjoy with roast lamb, beef fillet, venison or other richly flavoured dishes, accompanied by mushrooms or herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decant for around two hours before serving to allow the wine to open; younger bottles may benefit from a little more time.
Producer
Château Pichon-Longueville Baron traces its history to 1689. In 1850, the estate was divided among the children of Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville, creating the separate Pichon Baron and Pichon Comtesse properties; both were named Second Growths in the 1855 classification. Following its acquisition by AXA in the 1980s, investment in facilities, hand harvesting and stricter grape selection helped restore the château’s standing. Its Grand Vin is often described as a “super second” for its ability to rival wines from Bordeaux’s First Growths.
