Chateau Pedesclaux Pauillac 2021

Château Pédesclaux Pauillac 2021 is a refined expression of one of Bordeaux’s most distinctive appellations, combining the authority of Cabernet Sauvignon with the softness and aromatic lift of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Classified as a Cinquième Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, the château is known for wines that unite Pauillac’s depth and structure with an unusually sensual, elegant character.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in appearance, the 2021 vintage opens with inviting aromas of blackcurrant, violet and cedar, followed by subtle hints of tobacco leaf, spice and cigar box. On the palate, it is concentrated yet poised, with ripe dark-fruit flavours, finely grained tannins and a fresh, persistent finish. The clay-rich parcels contribute depth and power, while the gravel soils bring precision and elegance. This is a classic, balanced vintage with the structure to develop beautifully in bottle. It can be enjoyed from around 2027, although further cellaring should reward patience, with an expected drinking window extending into the 2040s under suitable conditions.

Production
The wine is sourced from Château Pédesclaux’s varied mosaic of clay and gravel soils in Pauillac. Clay provides richness and depth, while the gravel brings drainage, finesse and aromatic clarity. The blend comprises 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Careful work in the individual vineyard parcels, supported by the château’s modern winery equipment, allows each variety and plot to express its character before being brought together in the final blend.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to breathe. Decanting for approximately one to two hours is recommended, particularly when enjoying the wine in its youth, to soften the tannins and reveal its aromatic complexity. Its structure makes it an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison, duck with a rich sauce and mature hard cheeses.

Château Pédesclaux is a historic Pauillac estate whose wines were included among the appellation’s Cinquième Cru Classé properties in the 1855 classification. The château’s vineyards reflect the diversity of Pauillac, with clay and gravel parcels contributing different dimensions to the finished wine. In recent years, careful vineyard work and significant investment in modern winemaking facilities have helped the estate express its terroir with greater precision, while preserving the signature notes of cassis, violet and cigar box associated with Pédesclaux.
